Queen Bee, our current “Fan of the week” recently sent me a bunch of images of herself and her friends cavorting at the graveside of the Bonny Scott. (She’s the one kneeling up at the back doing that rock-n-roll horn symbol thingummy with her right hand…)
She also wrote this passionate comment in response to the “ugly/sexy” debate.
Shortly afterwards, this quite negative, and rather confusing comment came through from someone called “Peter”:
JESUS LEAVE IT WE ARE TH ETRUE FANS OF BON HOW CAN YOU HAVE PHOTOS OF THAT FAT THING AND ITS JUST HORRIBLE SHOULD BE SHOT DOWN YOU KNOW THE REST GET OFF THE NET TOSSERS WE DONT WANT THAT KIND OF SHIT
…quickly followed by another, similar comment:
WHAT !! GET THIS SHIT OFF NOW AWFULL FAT GIRLS JUST GO AWAY AND TAKE MORE DRUGS
I didn’t really know what Peter was referring to, since his comment wasn’t specific enough. I thought of blocking it altogether (NB: all comments are moderated), on the grounds that it was “negativity without justification”. But in the end I allowed Peter’s remarks to go to air, partly because I thought they might have the potential to draw something out, relating to this so-called dichotomy between ugliness and sexiness.
Does fatness equal ugliness? Peter seems to think so. But Bon certainly didn’t, as we know from his classic “Whole Lotta Rosie”.
After reading Peter’s comments, Queen Bee, generous and thoughtful in her response to this issue, sent me the following email, which she asked me to publish here:
Foremost on my agenda today is a big warm thank you to Lucas, wow fan of the week, you rock!! Then to Susan & Pablo good to see that this is a spot for like minded crew to bond over a common thread!
So hot off the Queenie Press here in the south west is the topic of “Open Forumsâ€.
Hmmmm don’t we just love them?? Forums provide a valuable opportunity for folk the world over to discuss a common theme. A hub where people bound by a central interest can be brave enough to put themselves and their thoughts out there, laid bare for anyone to view. Brave enough to put themselves in a position where these very thoughts can be scrutinised, commented on and dissected.
So that’s exactly what I’m going to do, I feel that its important for viewers to keep in mind before reading any further that this should be a place of homage to the spirit of Bon Scott. Today I will be dissecting Peter’s recent Blog (I think I’m being to kind here, when I call it that but hey bear with me, it’s worth it).
To commence appropriate dissection lets begin with the first rather rude comment: “whatâ€, get this shit off now awful fat girls just go away and take more drugsâ€.
My first thought here was how interesting, bad gramma and a rather nasty streak combined into a hub of spew. Then on closer inspection I found more references that I couldn’t bear not to share. In this brief comment I can confidently say that the writer was totally ignorant to the fact Bon had a love of women, he had relations with women of all ages, shapes and sizes and from many walks of life.
The untactful reference that all women should be thin harbours a deeper sense here and I ponder these few things about the writer Peter: Where has his resentment for larger women come from? Does he get turned down a lot? Has he never been laid? Can he not relate to women in any other reference than derogatory? Is he struggling with his own sexual demons, perhaps homosexuality? It has been in my own lessons in life that a curvy body represents the old fashion instinct to reproduce, a body that is of child bearing nature, wide hips and big busts, a natural instinct that a male wanting to live on forever through off spring can not fight.
Following that was the reference to drugs, ultimately leading to the definite conclusion that Peter is unaware of the (it’s an oldie but a goodie) “SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK AND ROLL†saying. Its clear that through rock band history that this culture plays a huge part in the idolisation of the musicians themselves.
The second entry is as follows “Jesus leave it we are the true fans of Bon how can you have photos of that fat thing and its just horrible should be shot down you know the rest get off the net tossers we don’t want that kind of shit.â€
Ahhh more references to fat chicks, seemingly iterating all of the above mentioned. This also depicts frustration, what has gotten the writer so worked up he can’t manage to string sentences together in a cohesive manner? Oh and the fact he had to write it twice, sort of like he forgot his stream of thought then decided to give it another bash. The statement of being Bon’s true fan is a farce and depicts an ownership, dude ownership. Lucas did ask for a gay perspective to be revealed but I don’t think he had this in mind! It’s apparent that in the spirit of Bon that his attitude reflected his leadership and I seriously doubt that Bon would approve of “true fans of Bon Scott†not welcoming the positive support of others on board.
In conclusion I’m led to believe that Peter did touch on the UGLY SEXY FACTOR here and that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, although the fashion in which he choose to air his gripe was uncalled for as personally after reading his tripe I was disillusioned as to the negativity displayed and the flagrant lack of respect for other users who would genuinely share a forum such as this to remember and keep alive the spirit of a very great man.

Bravo Queenie. I was surprised at the intensity of my reaction to that garbage of his. As a rule I’m not a violent person, I may yell a little but that’s it. I wanted to strangle that ignorant twit. Your analysis is brilliant & I back you 100%.
