Holy Matrimony! Bon’s lovechildren are a-comin’ out of the woodwork. The latest is this fella, Aussie actor Alex O’Loughlin. Here’s the story, lifted from the ever-reliable news dot com dot au:
The Oyster Farmer star — who recently joined the cast of US cop drama The Shield – has revealed he’s the son of late AC/DC frontman Ronald “Bon” Scott, according to the World Entertainment News Network.
And while Confidential yesterday contacted both the Sydney and LA-based agents of 29-year-old O’Loughlin, neither was able to confirm the bizarre claim, which first appeared in the Chicago Tribune last week.
O’Loughlin – currently dating fellow Aussie hottie Holly Valance – was also out of reach, in Canada to film thriller Whiteout alongside Kate Beckinsale.
The NIDA-trained actor, who was tested for the role of James Bond in the latest instalment, Casino Royale, before it went to Daniel Craig, was born in 1977 at the height of Scott’s fame as AC/DC’s hard man of rock ‘n’ roll – three years before the rocker died in London in February 1980.
In the meantime, the Bon Scott Blog’s original and favourite lovechild candidate (although one lovechild does not rule out another, of course) BEN SCOTT has begun an online petition to help promote his cause.
He wants the supreme court to grant him access to Bon’s DNA so that science can prevail, and it can be proven one way or another.
I really don’t know how these things work, where any of Bon’s DNA might still be lurking, or how they match up these things…but ours is not to reason why, ours is just to sign online petitions, right? OK, off you go then.
(Oh, and thanks to my brother Josh for keeping an ever-vigilant eye on the world wide web. He sent me the above news story about Alex O’Loughlin. What are family for, eh?)

The whole Alex O’Loughlin story was a hoax perpetrated by some pranksters who changed Alex’s IMDB.com listing to say that Bon Scott was his father.
What happened was that some lazy American TV reporters printed the info in their reviews for the TV show “The Shield” last year and the whole thing blew up on the internet very fast.
When I found out about the rumor, I contacted the reporters in question to let them know that anyone in the world can edit certain sections of IMDB.com so that info there was even less credible than what you read on Wikipedia.
Most of the entertainment reporters immediately printed retractions about Alex but, by then, the story already had legs of it’s own.
At the same time the story broke, Alex happened to be on vacation and had no idea what was happening. His longtime press agent stated that the story was news to him, too.
Anyway, once Alex returned he was pretty amused to hear the love child of Bon rumors but he also said his mother was a bit upset about being thought of as one of Bon’s groupies. I think Alex’s dad took the rumor in stride, but you can imagine how he felt at reading he wasn’t really Alex’s father.
See here for what I posted at the time:

Alex already denied that he’s Bon’s son. Read more about the whole story here:
Thanks Jon, thanks Flingthing, for setting the record straight!
Ya gotta love the internet. Great for rapidly spreading rumours, even better for tearin’ ’em to shreds.
My favourite line from the links above:
Alex O’Loughlin: “My father is a teacher. He teaches physics at a boys school in Sydney.”
(Oh, and shame on me for not looking more closely – that news article I got the Alex O’Loughlin story from was written almost exactly a year ago! Hardly hot off the press!)
AND THOSE ALL TOO FAMOUS WORDS WERE SO WELL WRITTEN…
THERE CAN BE ONLY 1…
“AND THERE WAS LIGHT”
AARGGH”LET THERE BE ROCK”…
“Oh, and shame on me for not looking more closely – that news article I got the Alex O’Loughlin story from was written almost exactly a year ago! Hardly hot off the press!”]………..
Good thing you’re mot a Journalist!…or are you? I did see it was an old story when I found it.. I should have mentioned that bit to you before you “went to press”!
ONE PARTICULAR NOTABLE POINT IS THAT WHEN THE STORY ABOUT MATHEW FIRST BECAME PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE… IT SEEMS MANY OF THE AC/DC FORUMS BEGAN TO TALK ABOUT IT…
BUT WHEN MY HEADLINES WERE OUT… ON NUMEROUS PAPERS IN AUSTRALIA… ON RADIO STATIONS… AND MIGHT I ADD WITH FRONT PAGE HEADLINE COMMENTS…MADE BY ONE OF THE MOST PROLIFIC OZZY ROCK BANDS OVER THE LAST “20YEARS” THE ANGELS BAND… CONFIRMING THEY WERE AWARE THAT BON AND MY MOTHER WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP…
NONE OF THE AC/DC NEWS SITES GAVE ME A MENTION…???
SEEMS A LITTLE STRANGE TO ME!!!…
THAT IS UNTIL LUCAS HERE CAME ALONG…AND HE SEEMS TO BE PUTTING UP ALL KINDS OF STUFF THAT IS PLEASURABLE TO READ…
GREAT WORK LUCAS… AND WOULDN IT BE GREAT TO GET MATHEW O;LOUGHLIN ON HERE TO TELL HIS SIDE OF THE STORY…SEND HIM AN EMAIL OR TWO…HAHA
more denials from Alex here…
TODAY IN THE MELBOURNE PAPER CALLED “HERALDSUN”…
THERE IS AN ARTICLE ABOUT A FILMAKER NAMED”EDDIE MARTIN”..WELL HE IS IN THE INTITIAL PROCESS OF MAKING…….
BON SCOTT…”THE MOVIE”…EVIDENTLY HE IS ATTEMPTING TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE CURRENT AC/DC BAND MEMBERS TO DO THE SHOW!!!
HIS OTHER FILMS INCLUDE THE BIO OF “LIONEL ROSE”…A FAMOUS AUSTRALIAN BOXER…(I KNEW LIONEL FROM WAY BACK IN THE 80;S AROUND MORDIALLOC)
BUT THEN MY THEORY CAME FLYING OUTWARD ALMOST FROM THE HEAVENS… AS BON SO SAINTLY PUT IT…
PERHAPS THE REASON MATHEW AND HIS PUBLICITY CREW PURPOSLY SPREAD THE “FALSE RUMOUR”… OF HIM BEING BONS SON IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET A LEG UP IN GETTING TO PLAY THE ROLE OF BON IN THE MOVIE???
A DASTERDLY TACTIC… AND I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THEY WOULD HAVE POSTED IT UP ALL OVER THE NET WITHOUT MATHEWS CONSENT… IMAGINE THE DAMAMGE SPREADING THAT COULD DO TO HIS CURRENT/FUTURE ACTING ROLE POSSIBILITIES…
WOULD A FRIEND OF MATHEWS TAKE THAT RISK WITHOUT PERMISSION???
I THINK NOT!!!
WELL BACK TO THE MOVIE… MIGHT HAVE TO “THROW MY HAT INTO THE RING”… WHO ELSE COULD PLAY BON BETTER THAN…
“THE GREAT BEN SCOTT”…???
LUCAS; YOU JUST GOTTA GET ME HIS EMAIL!!!…
well Lucas, you seem to be Ben so called Scotts favourite good on you mate, keep up the shit work on this dickhead. Mary
I’m sorry that Ben offends you.
My policy on this blog is to be inclusive. That means that I allow people to make claims and stand for them, even if I don’t necessarily believe them myself. “Official” views, like Vince Lovegrove’s moving story about Bon’s life, are presented alongside “unofficial” views, like Ben’s claim to be Bon’s son. It is up to blog readers to make their own minds up about the truth of these matters.
It is not for me to judge whether Ben is the “true son” of Bon. Nobody can prove or disprove that, except perhaps for a DNA test.
All I know is that when I met Ben, he was a nice fellow, and we got along pretty well. Perhaps it is true that he is an attention seeker, and can be annoying online. But I don’t really feel he represents a great threat to Bon’s legacy or reputation, and the fact that he can be a bit irritating to some people seems to me no reason to ban him from this site.
Bon Scott was a real man. But he was also a famous man, and along with fame comes hordes of fans, and occasionally, kooks.
Having said that, I respect your opinion and your friendship more than anyone’s, Mary, and I hope this explanation makes some sense to you. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Mary is correct on this subject. This Ben bloke is a fraud. He’s not Bon Scott’s son. Yes, Bon did have a son but it’s not Ben. It’s a guy called Dave Stevens who runs a record shop in st.kilda called Pure Pop Records. Ben is a hoax. Dave Stevens is the real deal. Case closed. End of story.
